What is AI?
AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. As of 2022, two forms of AI have become available to the public to create content and images. These tools are owned by different companies and more companies are developing their own AI tools daily.
What is Passive Income?
Passive income is money you earn by doing ‘something’ once and then it provides regular income. Examples of passive income are ads on YouTube videos. You create the YouTube video once but every time it is viewed ads are being shown (based on certain requirements) and then YouTube pays you based on these ads. Another way to make money with YouTube is by putting affiliate links in your description and every time someone clicks on the link you can earn an affiliate commission.
Books are another example of passive income. Write/Create the book once and every time the book is purchased, as the author/creator you receive a royalty. This is why passive income is often referred to as ‘profits while you sleep’. If your goal is financial freedom, you need multiple streams of passive income.

The two most popular AI tools are ChatGPT for content and Midjourney for images. By using these tools you can:

Why Create Coloring Books? The Power of Passive Income
There are different types of books: low content, medium content, high content. Low content books include journals, calendars, nnd diaries. Medium content books include activity books like wordsearches, mazes, sudoku, coloring books. High content books are novels and short story books.
Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) has made self-publishing easy. Despite the name ‘kindle’ this tool publishes paperback, hardback, and kindle books. For the physical books the process is ‘Print on Demand’ – the book is only printed when someone places an order for the book so it is also environmentally friendly.
As of 2023, the market is saturated with low content books. Instead a way for you to create and start being successful is by making medium content books. I believe coloring books is the best type of medium content book because of the wide range of topics available, tools available to determine which books are more likely to sell, and because they are being used by both children and adults widening your potential customers which translates to higher profits.
This is the perfect time to leverage the ease of eself-publishing with the ease of creation.
What Tools You'll Need........
To create a coloring book using AI you’ll need to use multiple tools. Don’t let this ‘scare’ you. Once you learn how to use these tools it makes it easier to replicate the process. For all of these tools you’ll need to create an account using an email address/password. Some of the tools will require a fee.
Discord is a platform for people to communicate. This tool is needed for creating coloring books because it is currently the gateway to Midjourney – AI for creating images.
2. Midjourney AI
Midjourney is an AI tool for creating images. Once you create a Discord account, you need to create a Midjourney account and choose a paid subscription plan . There are three plan levels: $8-$50 monthly. I personally use the Basic Plan that allows 200 images per month and this is the plan I recommend for people first using this tool to create books or physical items.
To use Midjourney, go into one of the newbies rooms and click on the sailboat image. You’ll need to post a command to Midjourney so it can create an image. You start by typing /imagine and the word prompt will appear. You literally type in what image you want the tool to create. For coloring books I use the prompt “(name of object). Line drawing using crisp black lines with white background. simple. kids.”
Your prompt enter a line so that on the screen you’ll see other people’s images being created. You will need to scroll to find your images and then you’ll have the option to create variations and update the image. Note: The minimum pages for a coloring book is 24 so you’ll need the number of images. Also when you go to the Midjourney home page you’ll be able to see all your images in one place and have the option to download the images.
3. BookBolt
Bookbolt is the tool for deciding what book to make and formatting the book.
BookBolt has a research section for you to investigate what subjects/objects are being searched on Amazon and Google and the level of competition. If you don’t have a passion you want to make the subject of your coloring books than use the Research mode to decide the subject of the book.
After you download the images from Midjourney, the Create mode of BookBolt is when you’ll download these images and put them into the coloring book template. BookBolt specifically formats your book to be compatible with Amazon KDP – the publishing platform.

4. Open AI - ChatGPT
Open AI is the owner of ChatGPT – AI tool for creating content. This tool is free of charge. When creating a coloring book you can use this tool for your Title but more importantly for the Amazon book description that will display on the Amazon website.
5. Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)
Amazon KDP is the self-publishing tool that is used to create the listing on the Amazon websites. This is a FREE tool. If you are already an Amazon customer, then you can use your Amazon credentials to sign-in to the Amazon KDP tool. Or if you want to use a ‘pen’ name, then create a new account to be used for KDP. To create the listing on the website, you need to answer a series of questions and upload the book from BookBolt. This is advantage of using BookBolt, it formats your book for the KDP tool. You will also need to price your book and provide the description you’ve created using ChatGPT. Once you’re happy with the information, press the PUBLISH button and you’ll book will be live on the Amazon websites within 24 – 48 hours. Then promote your book (s) and you’ll be able to track your royalties.
Although your royalty per book may be less than $1, the important part is that you will never have to create this book again. It will keep generating royalties for years without anymore input from you – Profits While You Sleep.
